Midpoint Monitor - Wizard of Oz



The midpoint of the Wizard of Oz happens when Dorothy meets the wizard - it changes the context of her journey. She was off to see the wizard in order to get back home, but now that she's met the wizard, she has to bring him the witch's broomstick - same overall goal, different focus.

Go to the middle of your script by page count. What's happening? Have you changed the context of the action? Think about some famous midpoints in your genre and compare them to yours. Like when Dorothy meets the wizard. She seems to have gotten what she wants, but then the context of her journey changes. But then the context of her journey changes. She finally meets the wizard, but now she has to get the broomstick. What's your midpoint scene or sequence. Will the audience lean into their seat? Or head out for a bathroom break?
